Remuneration Tribunal Determination 2012/15: Increase to Parliamentary Base Salary and Charter Transport Allowance Rates

The Remuneration Tribunal (the Tribunal) has made an amending Determination, Remuneration Tribunal Determination 2012/15:  Members of Parliament - Base Salary, Entitlements and Related Matters (Determination 2012/15), which amends two principal Determinations.

Base Salary

Remuneration Tribunal Determination 2012/02:  Members of Parliament - Base Salary and Related Matters (Determination 2012/02) has been amended to increase the amount of parliamentary base salary by 3 per cent from $185,000 to $190,550 per annum from 1 July 2012. Determination 2012/02 has also been amended to increase the amount of parliamentary base salary which is not salary for the purposes of the Parliamentary Contributory Superannuation Act 1948 from $38,620 to $39,770 from 1 July 2012.

Charter Transport Allowance

Remuneration Tribunal Determination 2012/04:  Members of Parliament - Entitlements (Determination 2012/04) has been amended to increase by 2.5 per cent (rounded) from 1 July 2012, the maximum amounts of charter transport allowance available per year to eligible Senators and Members.

Determination 2012/04 entitles parliamentarians representing larger electorates and all Senators, except those representing the Australian Capital Territory, to the cost of charter transport within and for the service of his or her electorate or State or Territory. The following table shows the current charter transport allowance rates and the rates to apply from 1 July 2012.
