Ballot for New MOP(S) Act Enterprise Agreement

Staff Enterprise Agreement 2016-2019 a ballot will commence on Monday 21 November 2016, from 12.01am. The ballot will close at 2.00pm on Friday 25 November 2016.

Negotiations were conducted between employee bargaining representatives, unions, and the Department of Finance on my behalf. I would like to thank those that participated and contributed to the development of the proposed Enterprise Agreement.

The enterprise agreement has been negotiated in accordance with the Government’s Workplace Bargaining Policy 2015 and provides three increases of 2 per cent per annum to salary and allowances.

Current employment conditions including leave, superannuation, the retention payment, travelling allowance and studies assistance will continue. To offset the remuneration increases, ordinary hours of work will become 38 hours per week. Employees will continue to be paid electorate staff allowance and parliamentary staff allowance for their additional hours of work.

A copy of the proposed enterprise agreement and an explanation of its proposed terms and conditions are available on the Ministerial and Parliamentary Services website.

The ballot will be conducted by GoVote, an independent ballot provider.  Next week, employees will receive an email from GoVote that provides a link to the ballot for online voting and, as an alternative, instructions for voting by phone. Further information about the ballot is on the M&PS website.

I expect to be able to inform you of the result of the ballot soon after it closes.

I encourage all employees to support the proposed enterprise agreement as it is the best offer that the Government is able to provide.

Should the proposed Enterprise Agreement be supported by a majority of employees who cast a valid vote, the Enterprise Agreement will be lodged with the Fair Work Commission for approval.  The enterprise agreement will commence operation seven days after it is approved by Fair Work Commission. The salary increase will be processed for the next available pay.

Should you require any further information regarding the enterprise agreement, please contact the Ministerial and Parliamentary Services Help Desk on (02) 6215 3333.

Yours sincerely

Signed by the Minister on 10 November 2016
