Who is the course for?
Anyone who wants to learn how to recognise when someone is thinking about suicide and to connect them to help and support.
About this course
Suicide is the leading cause of death for Australians between 15 and 44 years of age.
Stressful life events, trauma, mental illness and drug and alcohol abuse are some of the contributing factors to suicide. Many people lack the knowledge, skills, and confidence to support a friend, family member or co-worker who may be at risk of suicide. By helping to dispel the fear and stigma around suicide, the LivingWorks Start program contributes to an open and supportive community where people at risk can get the help they need to stay safe.
How the course is delivered
This course is facilitated through online learning across 4 modules (approx. 1 hour, self-directed).
Participating in the LivingWorks Start training, you'll learn how to keep someone safe from suicide and connect them with help and support. This program teaches valuable skills and requires no formal training or prior experience in suicide prevention. You will gain awareness, readiness and confidence to help people within your community.
This course is available to all MOP(S) Act employees and is provided as part of the Professional Development Program.
