Parliament House Offices

An office in Parliament House is provided for each Senator and Member.

30 offices are available in the Ministerial Wing at Parliament House for Ministers (excluding Parliamentary Secretaries).

Parliamentary Secretaries may be allocated a larger suite in the Senate or the House of Representatives, as determined by the relevant Presiding Officer.

Larger suites within the Senate and the House of Representatives are generally reserved for Presiding Officers, Senior Office Holders who are members of the Opposition, and the Leader of a Minority Party.

Senator

The allocation and arrangement of suites in the Senate is a matter for the President of the Senate.

Your House Department is responsible for the allocation of furniture and equipment for these suites.

Member

The allocation and arrangement of suites in the House of Representatives is a matter for the Speaker of the House.

Your House Department is responsible for the allocation of furniture and equipment for these suites.

Minister

The allocation of suites in the Ministerial Wing is the responsibility of the Special Minister of State, following consultation with the Prime Minister and leaders of the Government in both chambers. Suites are set aside for the:

  • Prime Minister
  • Deputy Prime Minister
  • Treasurer
  • Leader of the House
  • Leader of the Government in the Senate.

Wherever practicable, Ministers occupy the suites already fitted out by the relevant portfolio departments.

Parliamentary Secretary

You may be allocated a larger suite as a Parliamentary Secretary.

Presiding Officer

A larger suite in the Senate or the House of Representatives is reserved for the Presiding Officer of that chamber.

Senior Office Holder who is a Member of the Opposition

Larger suites in the Senate or the House of Representatives are reserved for Senior Office Holders who are members of the Opposition.

Leader of a Minority Party

A larger suite in the Senate or the House of Representatives is generally reserved for a Leader of a Minority Party.
