Postage costs for official duties

Overarching obligations

The Parliamentary Business Resources Act 2017 imposes overarching obligations.
The dominant purpose and value for money tests and specified conditions must be met. See s25, 26, 27, 28.
The Commonwealth is not liable to pay an expense or provide a public resource where you contravene any of these obligations (s29, PBR Act).

Minister

Postage for your official duties is administered by your department. Your official postage costs are not subject to the annual budget for office expenses provided to you as a parliamentarian.

Parliamentary Secretary

Postage for your official duties is administered by your department. Your official postage costs are not subject to the annual budget for office expenses provided to you as a parliamentarian.

Presiding officer

Postage for your official duties is administered by your department. Your official postage costs are not subject to the annual budget for office expenses provided to you as a parliamentarian.

Senior office holder who is a member of the Opposition

Postage expenses for the purposes of conducting your official duties are prescribed.

The postage costs for your official duties are not subject to the annual budget for office expenses to you as a parliamentarian.

Ministerial and Parliamentary Services will arrange for you to be provided with an additional postage meter so that the postage costs for your official duties can be kept separate from the postage costs for your parliamentary, electorate and party political duties. Official postage costs are reported in your monthly management reports separately to any postage transactions met under the annual budget for office expenses.

Leader of a minority party

Postage expenses for the purposes of conducting your official duties are prescribed.

The postage costs for your official duties are not subject to the annual budget for office expenses provided to you as a parliamentarian.
