This full-day course will assist participants to recognise early signs and symptoms of inappropriate workplace conduct. The course will help identify early intervention strategies through the risk management process and discuss the issue resolution procedures available to MOP(S) Act employees.
Participants will also gain an understanding of their responsibilities under the WHS Act, and will learn how they can keep their office safer for everyone.
Influencing behaviour for a safe workplace will be delivered by Comcare, and representatives from the Department of Finance will be present to answer questions about specific services and arrangements for MOP(S) Act employees.
What will the session cover?
Topics covered in this course include:
- an overview of Commonwealth WHS laws
- health and safety duties under the WHS Act and what they mean for MOP(S) Act employees and their employing Senators and Members
- WHS arrangements and procedures for MOP(S) Act employees, including how to access training or assistance and report incidents.
- how inappropriate workplace conduct relates to the WHS Act and what the responsibilities of duty holders are
- legislation that covers harassment and discrimination
- how to identify inappropriate workplace behaviour, including its causes and effects
- what is reasonable management administrative action?
- early intervention strategies to manage inappropriate workplace behaviours
- how to respond to a workplace bullying complaint
- resolution procedures available to MOP(S) Act employees.
This course is available to all MOP(S) Act employees.
All courses offered as part of the Professional Development Program (PDP) under the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement 2016-2019 are provided free of charge. However, the costs of any travel by electorate employees may be met from within your employing Senator or Member’s Electorate Support Budget.
Electorate employees of Senators and Members whose electorate offices are outside the greater metropolitan area of capital cities should check their eligibility to use additional trips for training. Employees accessing these trips should clearly mark their Staff Travelling and/or Motor Vehicle Allowance Claim as being for attendance at PDP, to ensure that the costs are not debited against the Electorate Support Budget.
