Excess (Canberra) Travel Leave

Employees whose work base is Western Australia, the Northern Territory or the Federal electorates of Capricornia, Dawson, Kennedy, Herbert or Leichhardt, and other locations as approved by the Special Minister of State, may accrue additional annual leave if they are required to travel to Canberra on a Sunday or public holiday to be available for a Parliamentary sitting the following day or on the day two days after travel where the first sitting day is a Tuesday.

One additional half-day of annual leave is accrued for each Sunday and/or public holiday spent travelling for a Parliamentary sitting. Approval of additional annual leave credits is at the discretion of employing parliamentarians.

Evidence of travel

You must attach evidence that you have travelled on the dates specified above by attaching a PEMS Certificate of Travel. To download the Certificate, click on the ‘Travel Expenses’ tile in PEMS and click on the claim. Once a claim has been verified by IPEA, a PDF of the Certificate can be downloaded at the bottom of the screen.
