Pay and employment

MOP(S) Act employees are employed to assist a parliamentarian to carry out duties as a Member of Parliament and not for party political purposes. This section provides information for new and current MOP(S) Act employees from starting employment, to duties and services during employment, and then ceasing current employment.

The enterprise agreement ensures staff have consistent and transparent employment arrangements, and covers conditions such as salaries, working hours and leave.

Submitting correct and complete paperwork by the pay cut-off dates will help us process your pay on time.

MOP(S) Act employees are entitled to take leave with approval from their employing parliamentarian.

Eligible MOP(S) Act employees may be entitled to staff allowances including electorate staff allowances, corporate responsibility allowance, travel allowance, and motor vehicle allowance.

Employee Consultative Group (ECG) is a committee for discussing workplace issues affecting MOP(S) Act employees. Anybody can raise a workplace issue with a member of the committee for the ECG to discuss.

As a parliamentarian you are paid a salary determined by the Remuneration Tribunal. You also receive employer superannuation contributions in addition to salary and could be liable to pay fringe benefits tax.

Income statements, previously known as payment summaries, are prepared by the ATO based on information provided to them by your employer. Income statements are available through ATO online services.
