Leave and public holidays

MOP(S) Act employees are entitled to public holidays. This includes public holidays at your work base and at locations when you are required to travel for work. Ongoing and non-ongoing MOP(S) Act employees will be paid the hours that you could otherwise have worked on that day. Public holidays are additional to other leave entitlements.

Ongoing and non-ongoing MOP(S) Act employees are entitled to annual leave. It is important to use accrued annual leave each year and plan appropriate leave. Please discuss all leave with your employing parliamentarian before submitting your leave application.

Ongoing and non-ongoing MOP(S) Act employees can take personal leave for a number of reasons. These include if you are unwell, injured, caring for a member of your immediate family or household.

MOP(S) Act employees with ten years of qualifying service can apply for long service leave. Discuss your leave arrangements with your employing parliamentarian before applying.

MOP(S) Act employees can take leave without pay with the approval of their employing parliamentarian. Leave without pay can be taken for a number of reasons including parental leave, ceremonial leave or for observance of religious holidays.

MOP(S) Act employees can access leave for maternity leave, adoption leave, and supporting partner leave. In addition to these entitlements, eligible MOP(S) Act employees may also be able to access the Paid Parental Leave Scheme and Dad and Partner Pay through Services Australia.

MOP(S) Act employees may be entitled to other leave such as compassionate leave, community service leave, and miscellaneous leave.

MOP(S) Act employees who have previously been employed under the MOP(S) Act or with a federal, state, territory or local government may be eligible to have their previous service recognised. This allows for transfer of leave entitlements and salary increments where eligible.
