The resignation letter must:

  • be completed by the MOP(S) employee
  • specify the date of last working day
  • be sent to the employing parliamentarian or an authorised officer
Termination of employment

Termination of employment

The MOPS Act requires the employing parliamentarian or authorised officer to consult with the PWSS before terminating the employment of a MOP(S) employee. Please contact the PWSS on 1300 747 977 or hr@pwss.gov.au without delay.

Please ensure that the written notice includes:

  • detailed reasons for the termination of employment that aligns with response ticked above.
  • a sentence informing the employee that if they are dissatisfied with the decision, they may seek advice from the Fair Work Commission regarding any possible remedy in respect to their termination of employment.
  • The date of termination (last working day).

MaPS anticipates paying final monies within four weeks of cessation, where practicable. Please note that late notification of cessation may result in an overpayment and/or a delay in the payment of final monies.
