New Professional Development Program courses available

Key points

  • On World Mental Health Day (10 October) we encourage you to take a moment to think about how Mental Health impacts your workplace. Did you know that 1 in 5 Australians are affected by mental illness, yet many don't seek help?
  • To help raise awareness and provide MOP(S) Act Staff with training, the Professional Development Program now includes Mental Health First Aid training and suicide prevention training.

Courses

Mental Health First Aid training

Approximately 20% of Australian adults experience a common mental illness each year. Mental health first aid is a set of practical strategies that support a person who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis, until professional help is sought or the crisis resolves.

This training is delivered as a blended learning solution. The first part of this course is completed online as self-paced learning, followed by a half day, face to face session in your closest capital city. This may involve joining a session with participants from other organisations.

Online suicide prevention training – LivingWorks Start

Many of us are in regular contact with people who are at risk of suicide, without knowing it. People who are experiencing suicidal thoughts may not be able to communicate their distress directly and warning signs may be missed or misinterpreted.

This training will teach you the techniques to help you recognise when someone may be thinking about suicide, so you can connect them to help and support.  >

This training program is a 1 hour online self-paced program.
